What to expect on your first visit to SSO

We will sit and discuss in depth your injury/condition. We will go back into your past medical history to help form a bigger picture including talking about any current medical conditions or medications you maybe on.

Next, we will ask you dress into whatever is comfortable (see What to wear)  to enable us to assess the areas in question properly. We will get you to move in certain directions, conduct special tests and a hands on assessment to help form what we call a ‘Working Diagnosis’.

From the ‘Working Diagnosis’, a treatment plan will be discussed with you. After this, your treatment can start. If a second opinion is needed, we will discuss with you the reasons why a referral to your GP or a different specialist is necessary.

At the end of the consultation we will run over what has been discussed through the session and you will be given some exercises to take away. If necessary we will schedule a follow up appointment.

The most important element is that you feel comfortable. Some patients prefer to dress down to underwear, others wear sports gear such as shorts, sports bras, loose fitting t-shirts or tracksuits etc. The reason for this is so we can see the relevant areas and assess you properly. For example, if you had knee pain and wore jeans that didn’t expose the knee, it can be tricky to diagnose and treat correctly.

I’d love to hear from you!
